The geeks decided they would need to adjust to survive in this world, hoping they needn’t stay long.
They found they were in the quasi-nation of Zantova, superstitious, Zantovans had bad impressions about “witchcraft” and “sorcery,” and any associated with the practice or happenings involving it. Barnabas seemed understanding however, and instructed the group to keep their lips tight about how they arrived.
The geeks soon learned they would need to pull their weight in the caravan, along with labor, Barnabas requiring a modicum of practice with a crossbow from everyone who traveled with his “merry band.”
The group trained, Austin, showing interest in the art, practiced more than the minimum and began training with Lyne, the Weapon Master. Lane, found his niche in swordplay and began training there, while Dylan and Charlie learned from the mysterious VARRAK, his alien fighting style Sabhi-Ekai.
Javier and Tyler, found the transition rather shocking and found little else than physical labor to keep their mind off the situation.
The caravan arrived in Biltal, the first settlement seen since the new travelers had been picked up. Here the group found example of what life in this world would be like. Simple stall merchants chocked the town square, while the smell of spiced meats and baked good filled the air.
Finding out that the caravan would be staying a few days, the group thought it best to explore the town and learn as much about their surrounding as possible.
While Lane went to learn what he could from the “finest blacksmith in town,” Javier and Tyler went in search of a library, so that perhaps they could find an explanation as to how they arrived in this world. The two began searching through town records for any hint or tale of a wizard, mage, mystic, sorceress, or anything that could lead to a sliver of hope for returning home. In the journal of a mayor long past, they found mention of a potential “Warlock” he had heard mention while traveling home from his annual trip to Highwall. With further research, they found this potential spellcaster to be across the region, in the opposite direction the caravan was traveling.
The group was told, and there was much deliberation on what to do, but this ended in an even split. Dylan, Javier, and Tyler thinking the lead being worthy of checking out, while Austin, Charlie, and Lane believing the report to be too vague and too far-fetched to hold any credibility. Either way, the entirety of the group decided to stay with caravan until the next town, where the crossroads would diverge in opposite direction.
A 3 day, uneventful trip to the next town, Dalham, and the time was nigh. The group decided to part way at dawn. Barnabas offered his support to those leaving his company, by finding them passage with a train of traveling merchants heading in vaguely the same direction.
As the sun began to rise, shining its dim orange glow upon the group, they said their goodbyes. Wishing each other safe travels, they each hoped to meet again bearing good news, or perhaps, just to meet again.
Each group set off, some to the East, the others to the West, neither knowing what the future had in store for them.
